So I had to giggle

It appears that the widget at the bottom that shows the size of the baby is a little confused. It's currently stating that Jess has been pregnant for 462 days and that she has 24 weeks left. I think someone accidentally changed the setting to "elephant."

This weekend is the final Babies R' Us run, as we attempt to clean up our registry a little bit. Unreal. We'll post pictures of the nursery soon - it's as done as it can be without us knowing what the 'berry is. (Yeah, I ended a sentence with "is", I'm not scurred...)**

**I initally joked here that I ended it with a preposition. Good to know that "is" is not a preposition. I still blame my 6th grade teacher for my grammatical confusion on that one.

Successful Doctor's Visit

I'm at the point where I'm seeing my doctor every two weeks. Then, beginning in May, it will be every week. I had an appointment this morning that Justin was able to come to. Everything checked out great. Blueberry's heartbeat was well within the "normal" range. Its the first time Justin has gotten to hear it in several months. He beamed from ear to ear as he listened. I'm measuring where I'm supposed to, and my weight gain is actually on the low side!! (woo hoo!!) So is Blueberry's. The doctor estimated that he/she weighed just under 5 lbs right now and that he/she would likely be born weighing under 7 lbs. I'm cool with a small baby. Hopefully its an easier labor!

Random Things I have Craved

One of the first questions people ask me is what type of cravings I have. I can tell you, not much. Since I was so sick at the beginning, I had more aversions than cravings. For example, despite my utter love of Thai food, even the thought of ordering it, let alone eating it, made me sick to my stomach. I finally gave in and let Justin order it but then made him eat it in the other room and promptly wash all dishes and take out the trash so I wouldn't have to smell it.

That being said, I have had some cravings....

1. Gummy candy -- Gummy bears....orange slices... gummy worms....I don't even like gummy candy, but I couldn't get enough of it in my first trimester. I ate an entire bag of gummy bears one day and decided I needed to get ahold of myself.

2. Panda Express orange chicken -- It had to be from Panda Express. It could not be from just any Chinese place. I held this craving off for a week since its so bad for me, but had to finally give in once I walked by the restaurant. So good.

3. Pancakes -- I am definitely a savory breakfast kind of person. My favorite thing to get is a breakfast burrito (with the potatoes in the burrito. so much better). Pre-pregnancy, if I had a syrup-ed item for breakfast, it was french toast and it needed to be on another plate so that the syrup would not run into my eggs/bacon/potatoes, etc. Now, bring on the pancakes!!! I can't get enough of them. We've made them at home. I've gotten them out on several occasions. I want to go out to breakfast just so that I can have them. Love it!

4. Penny Club from Mr. Goodcents -- For those of you not from KC, Mr. Goodcents is a sub shop that makes the most amazing bread. For some, I'm sure its nothing special. But for me, its awesome. Since I haven't been able to eat lunch meat during pregnancy, I have of course been craving cold cut sandwiches. Similar to the Panda Express orange chicken, I have not wanted just any cold cut sandwich. I want a Penny Club from Mr. Goodcents with mayo, mustard, lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. YUMMY! Can't wait to get to KC in the fall!!

5. I scream, You scream, Jessie screams for Ice Cream every single night. Seriously. Every night. There are days where I eat dinner just so I can eat ice cream for dessert. Don't get me wrong, I've always liked ice cream. But this goes waaay beyond like. It's a mild obsession. Its actually not even that mild. For the first half of pregnancy, I had difficulty digesting diary products. This did not stop me. They sell surprisingly good soy ice cream bars at Trader Joe's and Whole Foods. Now that I'm beyond my digesting difficulties, my options are endless. Thank goodness I'm still fairly lazy or I'd be at the Dairy Queen up the street every night.

Sock Monkey in a Sling

One of the presents we got at the shower was a sling for Blueberry. (Thanks Christine and Sharon!) I'm afraid of my ability to properly use a sling. I have visions of bending over and the baby falling out. So....I made Christine help me figure out how to use it. Above is the result!

Baby Shower

Justin's right...it was a truly amazing weekend. It all started with my parents driving in from Kansas City (9 hours, holy crap!) They pulled into downtown right at 5:00 pm to pick me up, the height of rush hour. Always good timing. Then we headed home to unload the plethora of items they brought with them....a book shelf....an ottoman....pictures....and tons of presents, including some items I used when I was a baby. All wonderful stuff that will be put to good use.

My sister-in-law Juli got into town from Denver around 7:30 pm and came straight to the house. She took her first solo-cab ride from the airport and survived!! My friends from high school got into town around 10:00 pm (Christine from KC and Sharon from Denver). It was a fun evening of food, stories (many about birth...Justin and my dad were very patient) and overall catching up. It was Christine's first weekend away from her 3 month old baby girl Shea.

Along those lines...special thanks to my brother Joe for being solo-dad of 4 kids for 24 hours so that Juli could make it. Same to Wellan for giving Christine the weekend off. Hugs and kisses all around.

The shower was at Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba (a tapas restaurant). I am so grateful to Theresa for hosting. The shower was thoughtful and the food was absolutely amazing. (I'm still dreaming about the french toast. Seriously. It was awesome.) It was such a treat to see women from many different areas of my life...family...high school...law school...work....Chicago... My only regret is not getting to talk to each one of them for longer. But, I will get to take the necklace they made for me to the hospital with me so that I will have their support when I need it most (i.e. when I'm in severe pain).

The rest of the weekend was just as wonderful. We had everyone over for pizza and the Final Four on Saturday night (Justin makes great pizza...thanks for the recipe Joe!) and then got to spend some time with Justin's mom and cousin at brunch on Sunday. My parents headed out bright and early Monday morning.

The weekend couldn't have gone better if I planned it. Now the real sh*t begins.....We're tackling the crib this weekend. Pray for us.

Just A Great Weekend

I just wanted to send a quick "thank you" to everyone involved with this weekend, I know it meant a ton to Jess and it meant a ton to me as well. I'm sure that Jessie will want to say more, but I just wanted to get that out there on a cold and dreary Monday morning.

A special thank you has to go out to Theresa Marx for her "above and beyond" throwing of the shower. Thanks T.

Head of the Class

Well, the first class wasn't that bad. We didn't get into the nitty gritty of birth (that's next week), but I think it'll be ok. I'm actually looking forward to the rest of the classes. I think we'll both learn a lot and many of our fears will be allayed. (keeping my fingers crossed). It's all about being educated and learning strategies....strategies about pain management....baby bonding....sticking up to my doctor (if needed).....all fun stuff. Ah the wonderful world of no epidurals/drugs. Its a whole different ballgame.

On a lighter note, the midwife teaching the class made the husbands do jumping jacks while performing Lamaze breathing. It was rather funny to watch. We only had to watch two birthing videos, and only one was graphic (and not that bad). Justin held up for both of them . I think I looked away more than he did!! Not a good sign.

Lastly, on a cool note, I volunteered my belly (and hence Blueberry) for a class demonstration on locating the baby's position. It was really cool. Justin and I got to learn how to tell the difference between a butt and a head, feet and hands, etc. The Berry cooperated nicely, just a few kicks. He/she did well. We're very proud.
