My December 30, 2009 Resolution

I need to post more here.

That's my December 30 resolution.

No, it's not a New Year's Resolution, it's a December 30 resolution. Two totally different things. The December 30 resolution isn't even capitalized. So, you see, totally different.

Anyway, as a start of my penance, I'm catching up on videos....as such, what follows is Lucy's Summer of 09 Video....

Pictures that did not make the holiday card this year...

Nana (Justin's mom) got Lucy the cutest Christmas outfit. We (actually me, Justin tried to be interested) were really excited to take an adorable picture of Lucy as the present under the Christmas tree. How cute would that be? Perfect Christmas card, right? Well....Lucy wouldn't exactly cooperate. We tried 3 different sessions and about 100 pictures. These are what we ended up with. Needless to say, we selected other photos for the card, which you will all be receiving soon enough. Thanks for the thought Nana.

I liked this one, but Justin thinks she looks "weird" since she isn't looking at the camera. I think its very artsy!

Happy Thanksgiving

It has become our tradition over the last several years to have our parents up for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately Susan (Justin's mom) wasn't able to make it this year. She got the flu to end all flues. She's thankfully feeling better, and was definitely missed.

Justin made an amazingly good dinner...and all diary free! What a good husband I have.

The kids at daycare helped Lucy decorate the centerpiece. It was her hand though.

Rice Cereal and Sweet Potatoes

Now that Lucy's 6 months old (holy crap, where did the time go), we decided its time to introduce her to the wonderful world that is food. She didn't mind the rice cereal. There were certainly a few "what the hell are you doing to me" looks, but she ate it. She wasn't a huge fan of the sweet potatoes. There were a lot more looks with that one. And as you can see from the pictures, not as many sweet potatoes made it into her mouth. This little glimpse has confirmed our suspicion....Lucy is going to be a messy eater!!! She just can't keep those fingers out of her mouth. Should be interesting.

Tired Burtnett ladies....

Lucy meets the exersaucer. Poor girl's legs are too short so she can't quite use it they way its intended, but she loves it anyway. She has to wear a bib due to the continued puking problem. Otherwise we'd be washing the thing at least once a day.

The kitchen in the new condo leaves much to be desired...but the sink is awesome! and the perfect size for baths.

Stupid Pigs

Justin has the flu. We aren't positive its H1N1, but all of the symptoms fit. There is no reason to get tested since the treatment is the same as for the seasonal flu...rest, Advil, fluids, etc. Plus, by the time he gets the results back, he'll be better (hopefully).

What does this mean for him? Quarantine. Justin has been relegated to the third bedroom (a.k.a. Never-Neverland). He has a bathroom back there along with a radio. He is only aloud to come out if he is wearing a surgical mask and then he has to Oust everything he touches. Good thing he hasn't had much of a desire to get out of bed. The poor guy has been leveled. This will be his third day off work. (For those of you who saw him this weekend, never fear, he didn't get sick until Sunday night. Who knows where he got it from. Probably from the L ride home Saturday night.)

What does this mean for the rest of the Burtnetts? Well...Lucy is fatherless. When they're in the same room, they are on opposite sides of the room. I'm sure she's a bit confused because she can hear his voice, but he doesn't look recognizable with the mask on. All either of them want to do is cuddle. Unfortunately that can't happen until next week. Ugh.

I am also now a single mother. These last few days have made me realize just how much Justin and I share parenting and how difficult and exhausting it must be not to have another person to help. Add the fact that Lucy is a little under the weather too (just a cough) and isn't sleeping...which means I'm not sleeping...and you have a recipe for the bags under my eyes. I am so ready for the weekend.

Happy Halloween (Part II)

On Halloween, we started the day at Brady Creel's 2nd birthday party. Babies babies everywhere. It was a ton of fun to see all the kiddo's dressed up. By the time the pics were taken, Lucy was out of her peapod outfit (she got waaay too hot). We put her in her IU dress instead.
We finished the night sitting on the porch of Ms. Sandy's house (daycare) watching all of the neighborhood kids treat or treat. There were TONS of kids. Sandy said that last year she had 500 pieces of candy and ran out! The neighborhood goes nuts over Halloween. Most of the houses are decorated (some rather elaborately....there was a haunted hospital) and all of the homeowners sit on their porches handing out candy to the kids. The vast majority of the homeowners are dressed up too. Lucy was wearing her third outfit -- she was a pumpkin! She got several comments by the other kids about how cute she was. I can't wait until next year.

(Lucy is not the most photogenic of babies. Catching her smiling AND looking at the camera is very difficult. Despite the look on her face, she LOVES Ms. Sandy)

Happy Halloween!

Every year that Justin and I have been married we've gone to the Trick or Treat Festival in our (now old) neighborhood. All of the businesses on Southport Ave. have candy available for the kids. It been a ton of fun to go and look at all of the costumes. In the past we've gone and sat outside at one of the bars, had a few beers/snacks and watched all the kids parade by. Well this year we got to participate!! Please meet Lucy the Peapod.

Despite the look on her face, we're pretty sure she had a great time. I think she got a little overwhelmed by all of the kids and dogs, etc. She looked at everything and took it all in. Unfortunately we had to take her hood off....it got too hot! That never happens on Halloween.

Lucy's first bus ride

A few weekends ago, Justin's cousin Lauren and her husband AJ and 5 year old daughter Anaya came up to visit from Indy. It was a wonderful weekend. We spent Saturday at Green City Farmer's Market and then The Lincoln Park Zoo. In order to get there....we took the bus!!

Bumbo Baby

We broke down and got Lucy a Bumbo Seat. They're designed to help babies learn how to sit up by themselves. Even though she may not look like she likes it, she does. It's really funny to have her sit in the Bumbo in the middle of the floor. She looks so small.

Roller Derby

She did it. She's finally learned how to rollover!! The ladies from daycare said she did it way back on September 4th, so Justin and I have been watching and watching and waiting and waiting. She finally rewarded our waiting last week. Now, she's a rolling fool! She's got the back to belly roll down. She's not so good at the belly to back roll yet. She gets stuck on her stomach sometimes and gets rather angry. Here are some action shots.

Barb: Lucy's first babysitter

(I wrote this post a while ago and forgot to actually post it. That's the most important part of a post...the posting....I'm an idiot).

Justin and I finally did it. We went out...together...without Lucy. Woo Hoo!!! Our friend Corby recently turned 31 and had a pub crawl (31 is the new 21). What better reason to get a babysitter than to go on a pub crawl. Responsible, right? Totally.

We found Barb-the-babysitter through our friends Brian and Lindsay. Barb was great. We felt completely comfortable leaving Lucy and had a blast on the pub crawl. Its nice to know we now have that option now.

I typically have pictures of the first time Lucy has a new experience. However, this time I felt like it might have been a bit much for Barb. I didn't give her the best first impression and I think asking her to pose for a photo might have scared her off. Barb arrived a little early and I wasn't quite ready for her. Let's just say that I was planning to be away from Lucy for 7 hours and needed to ensure that certain parts of my anatomy were empty. Poor Barb. She comes upstairs to meet me and I'm wrapped in a towel with a pump strapped to my chest. Awesome first impression!! Oh well. She's a mom....she understood.

Like Father Like Daughter

Nursery Pictures

At long last, some nursery pictures...just in time for us to move. That's right, The Burtnetts finally bought a condo. We will be moving to Andersonville (a neighborhood on the north side of Chicago) on October 16, 2009. This sparked me to take some pictures of our current apartment. After all, it is where Justin and I lived when we were first married and when we had Lucy. It must be preserved for posterity!

Anyway, these are some pictures of Lucy's first nursery. Special thanks to Mee-Maw (my mom) for making the curtains. She'll have to make some more to fit the window in her new nursery. The green dresser that Justin and I painted looks a little sad right now. We have some shelves we never got around to hanging. No reason now! They will definitely be put up in the new place. And there will be colors on the walls!!!! I can't wait to paint!!!
